Chapter Seven

(Jodi Tempest and Zeppy’s Heroes at BrokenFang Hold.)

“LEET … LEET!”

The elated cry pierced Jodi’s ears as soon as her avatar appeared in The World. Feeling a weight suddenly land on her chest, her eyes snapped open in surprise as she found herself staring into Blasto’s large golden eyes. They were really too large for his head, Jodi humorously thought, as the Pyro Spitter crouched on all fours. With the hyper intensity of a squirrel searching for a nut, his brown furry head had moved from side-to-side and up-and-down as his black nose curiously sniffed at her face.

“Well, hello there little guy,” Jodi cooed to her new pet as she reached up to rub at the dark brown stripe on its forehead. As Blasto eagerly rubbed his head hard into her fingers, she slowly began scratching down the little Pyro Spitter’s backside speaking in baby talk, “You are so completely adorable that I could eat you up.”

As she took a moment to cuddle with her new pet, Jodi thought back to the argument she’d had with Fiona the night before. Before logging out, the Blink Lynx had become enraged with her for refusing to dismiss Blasto into the virtual storage space that all pets came with. Jodi didn’t really understand the problem since Fiona wasn’t even going to be staying in the room anyway. That unfortunately didn’t stop the Blink Lynx from getting bitchy and bopping the Pyro Spitter in the head for taking the spot next to Jodi on the bed. Living up to his namesake, Blasto had spat a Pyroblast into her face without even batting an eye.

Needless to say, that had gone over like a loud fart in church. Between the face-full of scorched whiskers and the unbelieving look on the Blink Lynx’s furry face, Jodi couldn’t stop laughing. Only a cat could look THAT pissed off. Fiona had been so angry about the incident that she’d refused to wait in the room for Jodi to log back in, and threatened to eat the annoying rodent if it got in her way again.

Holding the Pyro Spitter’s back protectively, Jodi swung her legs over the side of the bed and sat up, before easing her hand away. Only to have Blasto immediately leap onto the bed next to her as she looked around the tiny room.

It really was on the claustrophobic side, Jodi silently thought. The long, narrow, and plain rough-hewn walls were like something you’d see on the History Channel when they were doing a special on Monasteries and Monks. That, or an old-style prison cell in a dungeon from the Middle Ages, only without the bars. To describe it in a more modern-day perspective, the room would have made a decent sized walk-in closet.

Between the door and the bed, there was just enough space to get dressed or undressed with a wooden armor stand to lay one’s clothing and gear out on next to a flat storage box for gear that could also be used as a seat.
